Have you ever been a Poet?

IF

by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

DISGUISES AND REALITIES

DISGUISES AND REALITIES

Random Thoughts On Life

Love is mask for madness

Lies a disguise for love

Doubt is knowing the truth

But another reality is sought.

Want is the cloak of weakness

To dream is the attribute of the strong

But to aim alone is worthless for

It is the plan that defines the ending.

Publicity thrives only in insecurity

For rejection and disapproval is ordinary

Indeed silence is a smart virtue to keep

For faith in the self is heroic.

Crisis is the tyranny of the uninformed

Tears are relief and a magical experience

For life is also full of happy faces

But it is the tragedy that always  becomes box office.

To live is to wander around  bare foot

To live is both satisfying and difficult

Every man is faced with his own faults

But everyday is a beginning that makes a different result.

THE 24 TRUTH

THE 24 TRUTH

IT IS IN SILENCE WHERE WE CREATE OUR BIGGEST DREAMS

IT IS IN SORROW THAT WE DISCOVER OUR ENDURING MIGHT

IT IS PAIN THAT WE APPECIATE OUR SIMPLEST JOY

IT IS IN LOVE THAT WE REALIZE OUR DEEPEST FEARS.

IT IS IN WEALTH THAT WE NOTICE OUR REAL NEEDS

IT IS IN KNOWLEDGE THAT WE START BEING IGNORANT

IT IS IN SICKNESS THAT WE BECOME OUR STRONGEST SELF

IT  IS IN ABSOLUTE POWER THAT WE LOSS ABSOLUTE CONTROL.

IT  IS  IN DISAPPROVAL THAT WE START BEING THE BEST

IT IS EVEN IN COMPETITION THAT WE SHOCKED OURSELVES

IT IS IN ENDINGS THAT WE ARE MOST PREPARED TO START

IT IS WHEN WE ARE BROKENHEARTED THAT WE BEGIN TO LOVE.

IT IS IN HAVING ENEMIES THAT WE REALIZE WE DON’T NEED FRIENDS

IT IS IN HUMILIATION THAT WE ARE MOST ATTENTIVE TO OURSELVES

IT IS IN DEBT WE REALIZED WE HAVE SOMETHING COMMON WITH THE WORLD

IT IS IN DEATH WE REALIZED WE HAVE ANOTHER SOMETHING COMMON WITH THE WORLD.

IT IS WHEN WE LIED TO SOMEONE THAT WE PROTECT THEM THE MOST

IT IS WHEN WE IGNORE THEM THAT WE ARE READY TO SET THEM LOOSE

IT IS WHEN WE LISTEN TO OTHERS THAT WE BECOME INFORMED

IT IS WHEN WE LISTEN TO OURSELVES THAT WE BECOME WISE.

IT IS WHEN WE START WITH DOUBT THAT GOOD CHOICES ARE MADE

IT IS THE TRUTH AND NOT PROBLEMS WHICH IS HARDER TO BEAR

IT IS IN CROWD THAT WE ARE THE MOST ALONE AND

IT IS ALWAYS IN PRAYERS THAT WE ARE HOME.

The Only Time I Ask for Drought

 A well that never dries

a source of life

a reason to die.

It works in its own way,

it relieves stress and release

the fume of fury away.

Want it not but one cannot decline,

it overflows in pains of

partings, pity, or crime.

I wish there are seasons

in this well,

so I may not always feel

vulnerable and frail.

Paradox (A poetry dedicated to the budding cynicisim looming within me)

PARADOX

Modern girl is what she is

Cellphones, computers and i pod

She likes the best.

Modern world is where she’s in

Globalization, capitalism, and information

Caged her and reign.

Yet she thinks differently,

In her mind she fought for the periphery;

Never will she take

Convenience for Inequality;

Never will she take

Power for Apathy.

Addressing the Problem of Dishonesty among Government Officials

September 27, 2007 marks a significant date in the history of Philippine politics, for the first time ever a former  Philippine president is held guilty of the crime of plunder and is deemed to face the criminal penalties as a consequence. This event is an ambiguous statement of the kind of justice system the Philippines has and a vivid reflection of the widespread and almost accepted “corrupt” nature of our government officials. The repercussions of this event is quite a long list for the area of politics, yet the most pressing of all the consequences is the moral effects it can bring to the Filipino people bringing validity to the long-standing claim of rampant corruption and dishonesty.

As students of Law, it is an inherent responsibility for all of us to help address this issue and bring back the values of honesty and integrity. In my point of view we can best address this problem through collaboration and most importantly, through active and progressive advocacy for honesty to prevail. By collaboration, I believe that corruption of values is a systemic and cultural problem which has its roots tracing back from the colonial and imperial experiences of the Filipinos, thus, although individual efforts surely counts, collaboration and team action is the best means towards the national goal of addressing value problems. Active and progressive advocacy on the other hand means that we should not only empower ourselves and be an example of good deeds, it goes beyond the self, it encourages everyone participate and be involved. Active and progressive advocacy for an honest government service starts in being critical and being able to point out and voice out the malicious cats of government officials. Advocacy for honesty should be concentrated on three major areas: a.) education – to instill in the minds of Filipino youth the concept of dignity; b.) government service and other government institutions – to bring back the trust of people to the government; and lastly to c.) to the adherence to the Rule of Law – to instill the values of discipline.

To sum everything up, Participation is the key. Participation in political issues is an inalienable right for every Filipino citizen in the landscape of democratic society. In little ways participation counts, even in school activities like our Law Week it is already an avenue for empowerment committed to put the value of honesty to its prime and proper place, above everything else. Our individual participation marks a channel for the government officials bounded by public accountability to render responsive and reliable public service. And when the government itself becomes the leading institution for an honest public service, the Filipino people would find a revival of their moral uprightness towards sincerity and honesty.
